About
Abhijit Debnath is an accomplished pharmacist and bioinformatician with a strong focus on drug discovery, computer-aided drug design, and machine learning. His work spans multiple interdisciplinary domains, including drug delivery, natural products research, quantitative algorithmic trading, and web development.
He earned his Ph.D. from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam University, following an M.Pharm from Pt. B. D. Sharma University of Health Sciences and a B.Pharm from Tripura University. This academic foundation has supported his transition into advanced computational and experimental research in pharmaceutical sciences.
His professional career began in the pharmaceutical industry as a Manufacturing Chemist in the Tablet Section at Belco Pharma, where he gained hands-on experience in production and quality processes. He subsequently transitioned into academia by joining the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at PDM University; where he has been actively engaged in teaching and research. Currently serves as an Assistant Professor at Noida Institute of Engineering and Technology.
In addition to his academic role, he contributes to national educational initiatives. He serves as an Innovation Ambassador for the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) under the Ministry of Education and as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for the NPTEL Local Chapter coordinated by IIT Madras at NIET. His involvement reflects an ongoing commitment to strengthening innovation and digital learning ecosystems in higher education.
Debnath has also contributed to the SWAYAM PRABHA, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India platform, where he has recorded lectures on pharmaceutical biotechnology and quality assurance, supporting accessible education across the country.
Beyond institutional teaching, he has developed theabhi.in, an open-access digital platform that provides students with lecture materials, study resources, multiple-choice questions, and video lectures, aiming to reduce barriers to quality pharmaceutical education.
His current research focuses on the discovery of novel therapeutic agents for cancer and diabetes, with particular emphasis on plant-derived natural products. He integrates computational approaches, including machine learning models, with traditional drug discovery workflows to identify and optimize bioactive compounds with potential clinical relevance.
