Ross obtained his PhD degree in 2005 working under the supervision of Prof. Jim Anderson at the University of Nottingham. Postdoctoral appointments at Scripps California (Prof. K.C. Nicolaou) and Cambridge (Prof. S.V. Ley, CBE, FRS) followed. In 2007 he was appointed as a fixed-term Lecturer at Nottingham and then to a Lectureship in 2008. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2016 and Professor in 2020. He is he recipient of the SCI Process Chemistry Award and the RSC Bader Award.
