About
Dr. A. Mohanasundaram obtained B.Sc (Ag.) (2003) from A C and RI, Madurai, TNAU, M.Sc.(Ag.) in Agricultural Entomology (2005) from TNAU, Coimbatore and Ph.D. (2010) from IARI, New Delhi. He worked as a Scientist at ICAR-Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums, Ranchi from April 2010 to March 2021. He is currently working as a scientist at ICAR-National Research Centre for Banana, Trichy from April 2021 onwards.
His important research achievements and contributions are in the field of collection and conservations of the lac insect genetic resources and lac insect crop management and lac insect pest management. Lac insect was collected from Madurai, Thrissur and Manipur were described as new species, Kerria maduraiensis & Kerria canalis, Kerria thrissurensis and Kerria manipurensis, respectively. His work on field demonstration of Lac integrated Agro-forestry System, newly identified lac host Callindra calothyrysis is commendable. He has developed improved and accurate method for forecasting of lac insect crawler emergence, for broodlac quality of lac insects and seri-lac culture model. He reported eighteen numbers of lac associated fauna and five pests of lac hosts and three alternate hosts of A. purpureus for the first time.
He detected semiochemicals in lac inoculated plants and other major compounds in lac insect and associated products. Dr. Mohanasundaram has published 37 research articles, 02 book, 02 Technical bulletin, 01Training manual, 06 Extension folders, 05 Souvenir-cum-book abstracts, 07 book chapters, 04 E publications, several popular articles and filed one patent.
