About
An active, self-motivated, and enthusiastic synthetic and medicinal chemist with a strong research background in pharmaceutical sciences and drug discovery. I initiated my research career as an Institute Research Fellow at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Technology, Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, followed by qualifying for the CSIR-SRF fellowship. I subsequently qualified for the Commonwealth Split-site PhD Scholarship and spent one year conducting research at the Institute of Structural and Molecular Biology (ISMB), Birkbeck, University of London, gaining valuable international research experience.
My doctoral research focused on addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in tuberculosis (TB), with particular emphasis on the discovery of novel antitubercular agents targeting bacterial survival and persistence mechanisms (Iron acquisition and homeostasis). My research has involved drug design and synthesis of small-molecule inhibitors, complemented by computational approaches including Structure-Based Drug Design (SBDD), High-Throughput Virtual Screening (HTVS), molecular docking, and Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations.
Following my doctoral training, I transitioned into an Assistant Professor role, where I am developing my independent research identity through teaching, student mentoring, and research development. My long-term research vision is focused on understanding and targeting bacterial survival mechanisms through an interdisciplinary approach integrating medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, infection biology, and translational drug discovery.
Throughout my research career, I have presented my work at various national and international conferences and have actively engaged with the broader scientific community including the Gordon Research Conference held at Barcelona, Spain.. I was also awarded the Best Talk Award at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), UK, on World TB Day, recognising my research contributions in the field of tuberculosis drug discovery.
I remain enthusiastic about building collaborations with researchers, scientists, academicians, industry professionals, and other members of the scientific community working towards innovative solutions to major global health challenges.
