Dr. Ashima Muyal

About

I am Dr. Ashima Muyal, an early-career academic with a strong background in Agricultural Extension and Communication and Home Science. I completed my PhD in Agriculture Extension from Banaras Hindu University, where my research focused on designing participatory video modules for Self Help Group (SHG) women in Uttarakhand. This work allowed me to develop participatory communication approaches that empower rural communities and enhance my interpersonal and communication skills.

In addition to my formal degrees, I have completed several specialized courses to deepen my knowledge and skills. These include clearing the ICAR-NET in Agriculture Extension in 2021, UGC-NET in Home Science in 2020, and UGC-NET in Adult Education in 2017. I also hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Development from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). To enhance my research capabilities, I completed a certificate course in Development Research Methods from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati. I have pursued creative writing training through an InternShala certificate course and expanded my agricultural entrepreneurship understanding by completing a certificate course on Basics of Entrepreneurship Development in Agriculture from IIT Kharagpur. Furthermore, I undertook an advanced full stack software development certificate program from IIT Roorkee to strengthen my digital and technical skills.

My educational journey also includes an MSc in Agriculture Extension and Communication and a BSc in Home Science with a vocational major in Family Resource Management. My research interests revolve around community engagement, rural development, gender sensitization, and innovative communication strategies in agriculture. I am particularly passionate about using participatory methods to facilitate empowerment and entrepreneurship among rural women.

I have published research articles and book chapters on participatory video as a tool for agricultural extension, challenges faced by women farmers, and virtual marketing strategies. I am committed to integrating research with teaching and community service, aiming to create impactful educational experiences in agricultural extension, communication skills, and entrepreneurship development.

My research skills include qualitative interviewing, qualitative data analysis using thematic analysis, application of scientific theory to qualitative data, designing surveys, and performing statistical analysis. I analyze data using SPSS and MAX-QDA software. In terms of computer and technical skills, I am knowledgeable in WordPress and familiar with full-stack development concepts, including front-end and back-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like React or Node.js. I am competent in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications. Additionally, I have familiarity with programming languages including Python, SQL, and Java, focusing on data analysis and software development. I possess an understanding of data science, machine learning, and statistical modeling using Python libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-learn. I am also familiar with Adobe InDesign for creating research presentations and publications, have basic knowledge of database design and management using SQL, and experience in data extraction and manipulation, along with familiarity with Git and GitHub for version control and collaboration.
