Dr. Sohan is a Research Scientist at the Illinois State Geological Survey, part of the Prairie Research Institute at the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign, Illinois, USA, where he also previously served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate for five years. He earned his Ph.D. and master's degrees in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, India. With over six years of focused research experience, Dr. Sohan specializes in hydrogen storage, carbon capture, desulfurization and development of energy storage supercapacitor and battery materials. His expertise spans catalysts, templated carbon, silica, activated carbon, and graphene-based materials, with significant contributions to the development of low-cost coal-derived supercapacitor materials. He is skilled in synthesizing graphene oxide, reduced graphene oxide, carbon nanotubes, carbon black, and activated carbon using various types of coal in cost-effective methods. His work is strengthened by extensive experience in advanced material characterization techniques, supporting impactful innovations in sustainable energy and environmental materials.
