About

I am a pediatric neurologist who began my journey at AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) as an undergraduate student in 1988. Since then, I have played a significant role in advancing pediatric neurology in India and across South Asia. In 2004, I was part of the team that established the first DM-Pediatric Neurology Program in South Asia, and I have led this specialty at AIIMS since 2008. My leadership has also fostered the creation of similar programs in SAARC countries.
I currently serve as the faculty in-charge of the Centre of Excellence and Advanced Research for Childhood Neurodevelopmental Disorders at AIIMS. This center embodies my commitment to high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic research. We maintain a National Registry, a 24x7 National Child Neurology Helpline, and Tele-Consultation Services to ensure comprehensive care is accessible. I have also developed E-learning modules to enhance knowledge transfer in our field.
Throughout my career, I have received over 30 national and international awards for my contributions to medicine. Some notable recognitions include the FRCPCH (UK) in 2021, FAMS in 2016, and the prestigious 2024 "Women in Medicine Award" from the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), India. I was also part of the AIIMS team that received the "Best Brain Stem Death Certifying Team for North Region" award in 2024. My efforts have garnered me fellowships from McGill University and the International Child Neurology Association, and I have been named a Global Senior Leader by the International Society for Autism Research (INSAR).
I am a founding member and currently serve as the President of the Association of Child Neurology India (AOCN-India), and I represent India as a National Delegate for the Asian Oceanian Child Neurology Association. My editorial roles include being the Editor of Autism, a journal published by Sage, and serving as the Vice-Chairperson of the Technology Governance Steering Committee in Healthcare under the All India Council for Robotics and Automation (AICRA).
My academic contributions are extensive, with over 471 publications and a high impact factor of 96.2. I have presented more than 600 abstracts at various national and international conferences, solidifying my reputation in pediatric neurology research. I have also been involved in numerous research projects funded by organizations such as NIH, MRC UK, and WHO, focusing on developing culturally sensitive diagnostic instruments for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), ADHD, epilepsy, and neuromotor impairments. These tools have been integrated into national programs and training initiatives.
My research has led to significant breakthroughs, particularly in drug-refractory epilepsy, with 13 studies, including randomized controlled trials (RCTs), focusing on indigenous dietary therapies. I have also pioneered neuromodulation techniques and contributed to the development of virtual and augmented reality devices for the rehabilitation of children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy. My innovative work with AI-driven tools aims to enhance prediction skills and joint attention in children with developmental disorders.
Currently, I am exploring humanoid robots for diagnosing and managing ASD and collaborating with CDAC to create a brain-computer interface model to improve cognition in affected children. My research on ASD includes RCTs on probiotics, iPSCs, exosomes, gluten-free casein-free diets, and music therapy, while also addressing sleep disturbances and neurorehabilitation techniques.
In the field of neuromuscular disorders, I am investigating therapies for Duchenne muscular dystrophy and spinal muscular atrophy, combining innovative techniques to advance treatments for cerebral palsy. I have organized numerous webinars, engaging experts globally to discuss various aspects of pediatric neurology, attracting thousands of participants.
My contributions to pediatric neurology are extensive and deeply impactful, demonstrating my unwavering commitment to advancing the field and improving the lives of children with neurological disorders.
