About
Dr. Abhijit Chakraborty is a Scientist in the Geotechnical Engineering Division at CSIR–Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI), New Delhi, and an Assistant Professor at the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR). He specializes in geotechnical earthquake engineering, computational geomechanics, soil dynamics, ground improvement, and soil–structure interaction, with particular emphasis on the behaviour and mitigation of problematic soils under extreme loading conditions.
He received his B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from NIT Agartala, M.Tech. in Geotechnical Engineering from NIT Durgapur, where he received the Institute Gold Medal, and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from IIT Roorkee. His doctoral research focused on the numerical investigation and mitigation of embankments founded on liquefiable soils, including seismic response and fragility assessment.
Dr. Chakraborty has undertaken research at IIT Kanpur and the Tokyo University of Science, Japan, and has contributed to research on liquefaction, ground improvement, computational geomechanics, and resilient infrastructure. His current interests include developing innovative and sustainable geotechnical technologies for transportation infrastructure, particularly for challenging ground conditions and climate-related hazards, utilization of granulated blast furnace slag material for sustainable infrastructure development as a replacement for natural granular material.
