Professor B. K. Medhi started his service career as Junior Scientist (Soil Science) at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Nagaon under the Assam Agricultural University (AAU). Due to his hard work and scientific acumen, Dr.Medhiservedthe University as Senior Scientist, Principal Scientist, and presently as Professor in the Department of Soil Science. He left an indelible mark wherever he served to contribute to the cause of overall agricultural sciences in the state notable among which were Remote sensing and GIS-aided technologies pertaining to groundwater quality monitoring, fertility, and chemistry aspects contributing crop yield, carbon sequestration, biotransformation of agricultural wastes to wealth and the like. In his long service experience of about 26 years in teaching, research, and extension fronts, he has around 80 research publications in national and international journals, 20 research bulletins, 3 teaching manuals, 20 book chapters, and 3 books to his credit. Dr. Medhi guided 5 PhDs and 5 Masters Degree students and guided around 40 students regionally and nationally as a member of the advisory board. In his service career at different places, Dr. Medhi was also associated with as many as 7 research projects besides working as Remote sensing and GIS expert for a World Bank-funded project. He has a total of 5 different technologies to his credit and the packages developed and released by Dr. Medhi significantly increased the production and productivity of crops as they were accepted by a sizeable section of the farmers. Because of his humble and scientific acumens, he is presently holding the position of Member, of the Science and Technology Cell of the Office of the Vice Chancellor, External Expert of the Board of Post Graduate Studies of Nagaland University, Training Co-ordinator of ISRO-IIRS outreach programs, nodal officer of Association of Indian Universities from AAU, Full bright campus representative of AAU among many.
