Dr. J. Venkatesan is a Professor and Head of the Department of Biomaterials and Transplant Sciences at Malla Reddy Vishwavidyapeeth, Hyderabad. His research focuses on the development of advanced biomaterials for artificial organ applications, with extended interests in drug delivery systems, biosensors, and antimicrobial resistance.
He previously served as Assistant Professor at Yenepoya Research Centre (YRC), Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Mangalore, India. Internationally, he has held positions as Research Professor and Postdoctoral Researcher at Hanyang University and Incheon National University, South Korea, and as Research Professor at the Department of Chemistry and Marine Bioprocess Research Center (MBPRC), Pukyong National University, South Korea.
Dr. Venkatesan obtained his M.Sc. in Chemistry from Thiruvalluvar University, India, and his Ph.D. from Pukyong National University, South Korea.
His research contributions include over 200 publications (research articles, reviews, and book chapters), four patents, and an h-index of 55 with over 13,800 citations. He has also edited three books published by Elsevier.
He is a recipient of research funding from DST-SERB, DBT-BIRAC, and Yenepoya University Seed Grant. He has been recognized among the Top 2% Scientists globally (Stanford/Elsevier) for four consecutive years (2021–2024).
Dr. Venkatesan received the Best Researcher Award during National Science Day (2018 and 2024) at Yenepoya University. His mentorship has led to students receiving prestigious fellowships, including the ICMR Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) and WISE Fellowship.
He served as a Visiting Fellow at the Indian Institute of Science (2019–2022) and has supervised four Ph.D. scholars, with three successfully awarded degrees.
