About

Dr. Sreeram is a distinguished leather technologist whose work has profoundly impacted environmental sustainability in the leather industry. With over two decades of experience at CSIR—Central Leather Research Institute (CSIR-CLRI), where he joined in 2002, Dr. Sreeram has achieved remarkable milestones, advancing to the role of Director after serving as Chief Scientist since 2019. An innovator at heart, Dr. Sreeram has pioneered the development of formaldehyde-free fillers and advanced solutions for chromium(VI) management. Under his leadership, CSIR-CLRI established the India’s footwear sizing standard (BHA), created specialized cold-resistant gloves, and crafted vegan leather alternatives. His academic contributions are extensive, with over 120 publications and an h-index of 28, alongside 20 patents to his name. Dr. Sreeram's accolades include the prestigious CSIR Young Scientist Award and the National Innovation Award. He is a fellow of several esteemed organizations, including the Academy of Sciences in Chennai, the Royal Society of Chemistry in the UK, and the Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists in the UK. His recent honors include the Distinguished Alumnus Award from AC Tech, Anna University, and the Asian Paints Padma Bibhushan RA Mashelkar Award from IIChe in 2024. Technology Roadmap 2035 of TIFAC, DST and a Springer monograph on Emerging Trends in Leather Science & Technology are prominent books that he has co-edited. Dr. Sreeram has served as Director (Additional Charge) of CSIR-Central Electrochemical Research Institute and as Theme Director for the Chemicals (incl. Leather) and petrochemicals theme of CSIR. Currently, he leads as the Mission Director for the Waste to Wealth Mission, chairs the BIS CHD17 and ISO-TC 120, and heads the Department of Leather Technology at Anna University. Dr. Sreeram's dedication to research, sustainability, and education continues to position him as a leading figure in advancing sustainable practices within the leather industry.
