Dr Nafees Ahmad is an Associate Professor at the South Asian University (SAU) (An Intergovernmental Institution of SAARC Nations with Diplomatic Mission Status under International Law) and was a Senior Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), India. Previously, Dr Ahmad was a Senior Associate Professor at the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA), Abu Dhabi, UAE. Dr Ahmad earned a Doctorate in International Refugee Law and Human Rights. He has also contributed to debates on Curriculum Development in Higher Education and delivered talks on International Relations, Human Rights Diplomacy, Foreign Policy, Bilateralism, Regionalism, Terrorism, and Transformative Constitutionalism at the Indian Society of International Law (ISIL)-New Delhi, India. Dr Ahmad delivered Research and Training to Diplomats and Civil Servants from SAARC Nations at the Indian Foreign Service Institute-New Delhi, India and delivered Refresher Courses in International Law and Human Rights at the State Judicial Academies to Judicial Magistrates and Judges and Orientation Courses in International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and International Human Rights Law (IHRL) to the Para Military & Armed Forces of India respectively. Dr Ahmad organized and coordinated programmes for SAU, AMU and AGDA students with ICRC and UNHCR-New Delhi and Abu Dhabi, respectively. Dr Ahmad accomplished Research Projects from ICSSR on “The Municipal Solid Waste Disposal Management in Delhi: A Socio-Legal Study of Okhla Landfill (India)”, Judicial Reforms in India on “Performance Indicators for Subordinate Courts and Suggestive Policy/Procedural Changes for Reducing Civil Case Pendency” from the Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India and on “Climate-related Human Mobility in Asia and the Pacific” funded by Raoul Wallenberg Institute (RWI) of Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, Sweden. Dr Ahmad received a Research Travel Grant from CARFMS, Canada. He is currently engaged in the Research Project on “Regional Asia Pacific Programme: Advancing Just Transitions to Climate Resilient and Nature-Positive Societies 2024-2026” by Raoul Wallenberg Institute (RWI) of Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, Sweden and South Asian University, New Delhi-India.
Dr. Ahmad has expertise in Refugees, Asylum-seekers, Migrants, Stateless (RAMS) and the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their protection. Dr. Ahmad conceived an innovative SAARC-specific Program, “Comparative Constitutional Law of SAARC Nations”, for the Faculty of Legal Studies, SAU and taught inter-alia IRL, IHRL, IHL, IML, CIL, ICL, and Artificial Intelligence and The Law at the LLM level (2010-2024). Previously, Dr. Ahmad taught Jurisprudence, Sociology of Law, Research Methodology, International Law, IRL, IHRL, IHL, International Healthcare Law, Law of Federal Constitutions, Law of Civil Liberties and Administrative Law at LLM level and Bar Courses, Political Science, Constitutional Law, Consumer Law, Alternative Disputes Resolutions, International Law, IRL, IHRL, and IHL at LLB and BALLB levels at the Faculty of Law-AMU-India (1998-2011) and also taught International Law and Human Right in the Department of Political Science-AMU respectively.
