About
Dr. Rabindra Nath Chatterjee, Ph.D., D.Sc., FNASc, FAScT, the former Professor and Head, and former UGC Emeritus Fellow of Department of Zoology, University of Calcutta, India has made significant contributions in the field of sex determination and dosage compensation in Drosophila. He published about 120 research papers including three scientific books on Genetics and Developmental biology. He supervised fourteen Ph.D. and four M. Phil students during his career. He is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Science, India and W.B Science Academy. He is also member of several scientific societies and Academies. He was elected sectional President of Animal Science Section of Indian Science Congress Association, for the year 2002-2003. He is also recipient of INSA Young Scientist Medal,1981, Dr. S. P. Basu memorial medal, from Zoological Society, Kolkata,1981, UGC Career Scientist Award, 1985; Gopal Bhattacharjee Award from WBDST, 2017 etc. Apart from teaching, he had undertaken several major responsibilities in the university and other scientific bodies. For example, Chairman UG Board of studies in Zoology, In charge Drosophila Stock center; Ph. D committee member in Zoology in different Universities, members in Advisory Board and P.G. Board of Studies in Zoology, and editor or reviewer of peer reviewed journals etc.
