Kartika Goswami, PhD
Jiaying University, Institute of Seismological Research, Physical Research Laboratory
About
My goal as a quaternary geologist is to investigate the past sedimentary records (fluvial, lacustrine, and aeolian) and surface processes associated with changing climate and/or tectonics to advance our fundamental knowledge of how the Earth's surface changes through time. I specialize in quaternary geochronology, geomorphology, paleohydrology, and sedimentology. My research involves the use of optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating methods, viz, coarse grain, fine grain, and single grain methods using quartz and feldspar. I am confident in handling different sample types, for instance, partially bleached samples, samples with a low signal-to-noise ratio, and archaeological and pottery samples for geochronological studies. I am actively involved in understanding the fundamentals of luminescence physics to explore its new applicability in geosciences, apart from being used as a classical quaternary dating technique. Currently, I am investigating the application of various luminescence signals (OSL and TL) for sedimentary provenance Kartika Goswami fingerprinting and its use in sediment budgeting in complex geological settings. I look forward to working on projects where my skills in luminescence physics and quaternary geology can be used to gain insights into the interaction of human activities and the changing climate.
