About
Dr. Puneet Kumar Chaudhary is a Scientist in Chemical Engineering and Process Development division at CSIR – National Chemical Laboratory Pune. He is also an Assistant Professor at the Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research (AcSIR) in Chemical Sciences. Dr. Chaudhary’s research interest is in the area of Reaction Engineering and Heterogeneous Catalysis, with particular emphasis on the catalyst and process development for thermo-catalytic reactions. The research focuses on probing fundamental catalytic phenomena, reaction mechanisms, kinetics, and modeling of well-defined catalysts for energy and environmental applications. The research topics primarily align with the net-zero CO2 emission target. CO2 conversion and utilization projects, including CO2 reforming, Autothermal reforming, Partial oxidation, Flue gas reforming, and CO2 hydrogenation to Methanol or Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG). Value-added synthesis is also envisaged with direct CO2-FT, Reverse Water Gas Shift (RWGS), and Methanol to Dimethyl ether (DME) process. Dr. Chaudhary’s interest is also extended to exploring the chemistry involved in the conversion of biomass to sustainable aviation fuel and fuel additives. Modeling and simulation are also areas of interest, including thermodynamic, kinetic, and microkinetic studies for various thermo-catalytic reactions.
Dr. Chaudhary is a Chemical Engineer and received his M.Tech in 2016 from IIT Kharagpur and PhD in 2022 from IIT Kanpur. The PhD dissertation was on process and catalytic improvement strategies for syngas synthesis through CO2 reforming. He later joined Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited as a Researcher in 2022, where he worked on several CO2 utilization and value addition projects focusing on solutions to net-zero emission challenges.
