Dr. Devbhadra V. Shah has been a Professor at the Department of Mathematics, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU), Surat since 2017. He has more than 35 years of cumulative teaching experience, having previously been employed at Sir P. T. Sarvajanik College of Science in Surat from 1994. In 1997, he graduated with a Ph.D. from South Gujarat University in Surat.
His areas of interest in research include Number Theory and Combinatorics, with a particular interest in studying various types of generalized Fibonacci numbers, Diophantine equations and Partition theory.
Dr. Shah held the position of President of Gujarat Ganit Mandal in the year 2024 and had previously served as its secretary for a duration of nine years. He is also serving as convener of ‘Prof. A. M. Vaidya Foundation (GGM)’.
He has mentored 12 research scholars for their Ph.D. degrees and 8 for their M.Phil. degrees. Currently, six students are pursuing their Ph.D. under his guidance. Over the years, he has published 103 research papers in various International and National level journals.
He also functions as a Co-editor and Reviewer for six International and National level research journals and has co-authored/edited six books.
In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Shah was the Head of the Department of Mathematics at Sir P. T. Sarvajanik College of Science, Surat, for a period of five years. He also served as the Chairman of the Board of Studies in Mathematics and as the Coordinator of the Startup and Entrepreneurship Council at VNSGU, Surat, for two years. He is an active member of several national-level professional bodies.
Dr. Shah served as the Chief Editor of the pedagogical magazine Suganitam, in which he has authored 42 articles on a wide range of topics. He is also a member of the editorial board of the Bulletin of ‘The Mathematics Consortium’.
He has organized several workshops, seminars and conferences and has been part of various State and National level academic committees. He has also served as a resource person for the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
Dr. Shah has conducted more than 150 popular and technical lectures on a range of mathematics topics at various academic institutions across the nation. Additionally, he has also delivered more than 80 invited talks at the state level conferences and workshops, STTP, TV channels, and schools and colleges. This also includes several invited lectures at the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG). He has provided his expertise as a resource person for several conferences, seminars, and workshops. His lecture on the life and contributions of Srinivasa Ramanujan has been well known and appreciated throughout the country.
Dr. Shah has been honored with several awards, including the Shikshan Ratna Award, the Research Excellence Award 2020, the Outstanding Scientist Award, and the Prof. A. R. Rao Award for Mathematics Education and Popularization. Recently, he received the cover page coverage for the Sept. 2025 edition of the magazine ‘The Indian Achievers’.
