About

Dr. Alexpandi Rajaiah is a dedicated researcher in the field of microbiology, nanomedicine, and natural product-based therapeutics, with a particular focus on developing innovative strategies to combat multidrug-resistant pathogens such as Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). His research integrates microbiology, nanotechnology, proteomics, and phytochemistry to design multifunctional therapeutic platforms that address urgent clinical and environmental health challenges.

Over the past years, Dr. Alexpandi has made significant contributions to the development of carbon quantum dots (CQDs) and biopolymer-based hydrogels functionalized with phytocompounds . His work demonstrates how green-synthesized nanomaterials and phytocompound-loaded biomaterials can act as potent antibacterial, antibiofilm, and antivirulence agents. Through extensive in vitro and in vivo evaluations, he has established the therapeutic safety and efficacy of these platforms in mammalian (Wistar rats, RAW 264.7 macrophages) and aquatic (zebrafish, Artemia, Amphiprion percula) models.

A hallmark of his research is the integration of molecular and systems biology approaches. Using proteomics, qPCR, and STRING network analyses, Dr. Alexpandi has uncovered the molecular mechanisms through which citronellol-functionalized CQDs and hydrogels attenuate MRSA virulence. His findings reveal dual-action mechanisms involving oxidative stress induction, toxin suppression, adhesion inhibition, and biofilm regulation, thereby preventing resistance development.

In addition, his group has explored the ecotoxicological impacts of nanomaterials, ensuring that novel nanotherapeutics are not only clinically effective but also environmentally safe. By evaluating toxicity profiles in aquatic organisms and mammalian systems, he has contributed to the emerging field of sustainable nanomedicine that balances human health benefits with ecological responsibility.
