About

Dr. Ashish Pandey is a Professor (HAG) at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee and currently serves as the Head of the Center for Sustainable Rural Development. He is the former Bharat Singh Chair Professor of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, and former Head of the Department of Water Resources Development and Management (WRD&M) at IIT Roorkee. He earned his B.Tech. and M.Tech. (Gold Medal) degrees from the College of Agricultural Engineering, JNKVV, Jabalpur, and earned his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
Prof. Pandey is widely recognized for his pioneering contributions to the application of geospatial technology in water resources management, site suitability analysis, wetland health assessment, and hydrological modeling-based climate research. His work has significantly advanced science-driven watershed and river basin management, influencing both national and global strategies for sustainable planning and conservation of natural resources.
A dedicated academician and mentor, Prof. Pandey has supervised 21 Ph.D. and 109 M.Tech. students. He has published 156 high-impact peer-reviewed international journal papers, 39 book chapters, and co-authored three textbooks and seven edited books. His research is extensively cited in leading national and international journals, and he has been consistently listed among the Top 2% of scientists worldwide (2022–2025) in Engineering based on research impact. He has successfully completed 21 R&D projects and is currently leading 10 ongoing projects sponsored by various national and international organizations. Additionally, he has undertaken 65 consultancy assignments addressing diverse aspects of water and natural resource management.
Prof. Pandey has received numerous prestigious international and national fellowships and awards for his outstanding contributions to water resources management using geospatial technologies. His major recognitions include the Visiting International Fellowship (VIF-2026) award from EWRI of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), PAWEES 2025 International Award (International Society of Paddy and Water Environment Engineering), the National Geospatial Award for Excellence 2024 (Indian Society of Remote Sensing), the Dr. K.G. Tejwani Award 2022 for Management of Natural Resources (Indian Association of Soil and Water Conservationists), the Eminent Engineers Award (2015) (Institution of Engineers, India – Uttarakhand State Centre), and the DAAD Scholarship (2004), Germany. He has served on several national committees of the Government of India and is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), the Indian Association of Hydrologists (IAH), and the Indian Water Resources Society (IWRS).
