Dr. Balwant Kumar, Assoc. Prof.-cum-Sr. Scientist, Genetics and Plant Breeding , SRI, RPCAU, Pusa,(Since 2007) awarded B.Sc.(Ag) 1996, M.Sc. (Ag) 1999 and PhD-in 2003 from R.A.U., Bihar, Pusa. Samastipur. Served as Chemist from 2004 to 2007in PHED for water testing. Since 2007 to till date, actively involved in teaching, research and extension activities specially, Sugarcane Varietal Improvement work in state trial as well as AICRP on Sugarcane. During 2012 to 2013 acted as HoD, Sugarcane Breeding SRI, Pusa. again from 2023 to till date acted as HoD, GPB, SRI, Pusa. 15 students have got his/her M.Sc.(Ag) award among them two gold Medallists under my guidance, published 52 research papers and more than 75 popular articles. Acted as judge for fine art and also lead in extension activities and Secured Prizes Ist (2014), II nd (2016 &2024) and IIIrd (2012, 2013, 2015, 2017 & 2018) for Jhanki of SRI, Pusa on the occasion of Republic Day 2012 to 2026 at University H.Q, Pusa, Bihar. Coordinate the cultural events during Republic day 2020 for students of PG faculty, Secured Ist, II nd and IIIrd, Prizes. Utilizing artistic skill for selection of best performing clones from seedling generation to different clonal generations. Carried out evaluation of newly developed early maturing sugarcane, against red rot reaction and water logging tolerant. Altogether 98 clones have been developed at SRI, Pusa. 12 varieties namely CoP 2061, BO 153, CoP 112, BO 154, Rjendra Ganna-1,3,4,5,6,7&8 recommended for its commercial cultivation in Bihar while 4 varieties CoP 2061, Rjendra Ganna-1 Rjendra Ganna-2 and Rjendra Ganna-5 were released and notified by CVRC,New Delhi. As a Regular breeder attended crossing programme at NHG, SBI, Coimbatore, attended Breeders Meet, Workshop and monitoring of the AICRP(S). Presented papers in national and international conferences as Key notes, invitee lectures and lead paper. Got Outstanding Scientist in Agriculture Award’ (iCiAsT-2019)&‘Innovative Scientist of the Year Award (iCiAsT-2016) for outstanding contribution in the field of Sugarcane Breeding. Best Paper Presentation Award, by NISSTA in National Seminar 2018. Best Article Award & Innovative Article Award by Ag & food e-newsletter, Young Scientist award 2020 Society of Tropical Agriculture New Delhi on 19-20 Dec.2020. Since 2008 serve as Chairman/Judge/member of fine arts selection committee for selection of first, second and third ranker in fine arts event organized by the DSW, RPCAU, Pusa or respective Heads/Unit of University. Got Acknowledges and Honors as Reviewer of IJAS, ISSN: 0975-3710 during 2016. PI of Non-Plan Projects viz, ‘Development of high yielding sugarcane varieties tolerant to water logging’ from 2010-2015 and Development of sugarcane varieties for durable resistance against red rot from 2012 to 2015. Co-ordinator: National Seminar on Problems and Prospects of sugarcane Industry in the state of Bihar.12-13 July, 2016 & hold Chairman of Technical Session. More than 92 research Abstract Publications in Proceeding of national and international conferences. Edited/Compile books or Souvenir, technical bulleting,folders,book chapters and also worked as a member of editorial board and life member of Scientific Societies. Got Excellence in Teaching Award in the field of Plant Breeding during 4th NC, DISHA-2021 and received best Oral presentation award. During Lockdown of Covid-19 Period online classes, external viva voice of 600 students of MS, Swaminathan School Odisha, Online Participated in Several Webinar either International or National. Collected the history of Agriculture of India for Pusa Museum as Member Secretary, inaugurated online mode on 3.12.2020 by DG, ICAR. And he also visited on 7.10.2021. Acted as O/I, Zonal SRI,Pusa and Nodal Officer for Co-ordinating training Programme with KVKs of RPCAU, Pusa for multiplication of Sugarcane Seed through Single bud Planting: Technology released. Motivation of Farmers for entrepreneurship for sugarcane juce. Attended International Conference at Thailand (2018) .Organised Training Programme as Co-0rdinator.
