About

Prof. Venkateswarlu Kadiyala actively involved in research related to Environmental Biotechnology and Agricultural Microbiology since 1975. Served as the Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, and Coordinator of UGC-Special Assistance Programme (UGC-SAP) besides actively involving in various academic and administrative committees. Contributions in research areas of environmental pollutant/pesticide–microbiota interactions, bioremediation, biocatalysis and VA mycorrhizas have been well received and widely cited. Continued successful research collaboration with international scientists actively involved in environmental pollution. This resulted in publication of several major reviews of high impact in a large number of research journals like Biotechnology Advances, Environment International, Environmental Pollution, Critical Reviews in Environmental Science and Technology, Reviews of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Chemosphere, Reviews in Environmental Science and Bio/technology, Science of the Total Environment, Bioresource Technology, Critical Reviews in Biotechnology, etc. The number of Google citations of 158 papers published in peer reviewed research journals of international repute is 5350 with an h-index of 36 i10-index of 100 and a cumulative impact factor of 526.537. Received highly prestigious national/international research awards such as Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship in 1989 from British Council (UK), Visiting Senior Research Associateship (1995-1997; 2001-2003) from National Research Council (USA), and Endeavour Executive Award in 2010 from DEEWR, Government of Australia. Served as an editor for Indian Journal of Microbiology. Received State Best Teacher Award (2005), and was elected Fellow of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (FNAAS), and Fellow of Association of Microbiologists of India (FAMI), both in 2008.
Following are the contributions to the National/International issues: Acid-tolerant microalgae for heavy metal removal and production of sustainable biomass and biodiesel at acidic pH; Bioremediation approaches for organic pollutants: Limitations and prospects; In-situ and ex-situ remediation approaches for contaminated sites; Risk-based remediation of sites contaminated with chemicals; Agronomic and remedial benefits and risks of biochar application; Potential approaches for reclamation of abandoned metalliferous mines; Harnessing the potential of microbes for reclamation of derelict mine sites; Factorial design in combination with artificial neural network and genetic algorithm to predict the interactive toxicological effects of chemical mixtures; Biotechnological role of microalgae and cyanobacteria; Mixtures of contaminants and their toxicity to non-target biota; Pathway for p-nitrophenol degradation by Bacillus sphaericus JS905; Biocatalytic production of ortho-aminophenols from nitroaromatic compounds; Proof for the resurgence of brown planthopper in carbofuran-retreated rice fields; Heavy metal resistant petroleum-degrading bacteria for bioremediation of mixed contaminated sites: Linking bacterial diversity to contaminant degradation through pyrosequencing analysis; Soil microalgae for high-molecular weight polyaromatic hydrocarbon remediation; Waste to valuable resource: Remediation of hexavalent chromium and dyes; Risk-based approach for remediation/revegetation of abandoned mine sites; Immobilization technology for removal of toxicants/nutrients from effluents; and Development of a process for larger-scale biotransformation of nitroarenes to the corresponding ortho-aminophenols.
