Dr. Sanjeev Sharma is presently working as Associate Professor at Centre for the Study of Regional Development, School of Social Science, Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi since 14 July 2023. Before joining Associate Professor he was Associate Professor (on deputation) at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre. Before joining DAIC he was working as Assistant Professor in the Centre for Study of Regional Development, School of Social Science and Concurrent Faculty in the Special Centre for E-Learning at Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi, since July 2017. He was also Assistant Director, UGC- HRDC-JNU, New Delhi for two years 2020-22. He was the Course Coordinator/ Programme Advisor for M.A. Geography Programme and Undergraduate Programme (UG Optional Course) of CSRD/SSS, JNU. Over the past one and half decades he has worked in different academic and research institute viz. Dr. H.S. Gour Central University of Sagar, IISER, Mohali, WWF-India and G. B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (NIHE) (Autonomous Institute of MoEF&CC). He has done M.A., M.Phil.; Ph.D. (HPU, Shimla) Post Doctorate (IISER, Mohali) and PG Diploma in Environmental Law and Policy (NLU, Delhi). His research expertise are in human ecology; environmental impact assessment and management, disaster management, tribal studies, policy planning and nature conservation; natural resource management; community based participatory management; capacity building program; science society and nature study and landscape development etc. He has been worked in the higher altitude region of western Himalaya on various society-nature and environmental issues.

Expert Member in Himachal Pradesh State Wetlands Authority, Govt. of Himachal Pradesh. Approved Empanelled Expert (EIA) by National Accreditation Board for Education & Training (NABET), Quality Council of India for Socio-economic Sector (Functional Area).
He has been an approved Empanelled Expert (EIA) by National Accreditation Board for Education & Training (NABET), Quality Council of India for Socio-economic Sector (Functional Area). He has more than 50 International and National research publications to his credit in Journals, Book Chapters, Proceedings and Popular articles etc.. He has delivered more than 100 invited lectures, conferences paper etc. as paper presenters and invited speaker at various academic platform.

He is active life member of National Association of Indian Geographer; Association of Punjab Geographers; Indian Institute of Geographer; Association of Population Geographer of India (APGI); Himalayan Geology, Wadia Institute, Dehradun; Indian Institutes of hydrologist and Geographical Society of Himachal Pradesh. He has completed and presently working on Research Project funding from ICSSR, ONGC, THDC and Deptt. of Wildlife Protection, Jammu & Kashmir.
