Sushmita Jha is a Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur. Dr Jha is a PhD from the Dept. of Cell and Molecular Physiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (USA) (2004-2009). During her PhD, she elucidated a novel pathway for inflammation and demyelination in the brain(https://www.jneurosci.org/content/30/47/15811.short). In 2009, she pursued her Postdoctoral research at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Care (USA), characterizing cellular and molecular mechanisms of demyelination in Multiple Sclerosis (https://rupress.org/jem/article/214/5/1351/167/NLR-members-NLRC4-and-NLRP3-mediate-sterile). Subsequently, Dr Jha joined IIT Jodhpur in 2012. At IIT Jodhpur, her Inflammation Immunity and Tumour Biology Lab (IITBio Lab
https://sushmitajhalab.com) focuses on understanding innate immunity, inflammation, and tumour biology in glioma pathogenesis and inflammatory pathways. Her scientific vision is to apply research skills to studies of complex neurological disorders for therapeutic interventions and train future scientists in the scientific process. Dr Jha is the recipient of the ISNO President’s Award for Outstanding Work in Neuro-Oncology awarded by the Indian Society for NeuroOncology (2022), the Kusum Sharma Award for a Young Woman Scientist 2020 awarded by the Indian Academy of Biomedical Sciences (2021), the Young scientist (Fast track) Award, (2014-2017) Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Government of India and the Hulka Innovator’s Award (2008) Centre for women’s health research at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, USA. Dr Jha’s research and teaching interests have been fostered by education, research, teaching and mentoring at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, MS University Baroda and St. Joseph's College of Arts and Science, Bangalore. Apart from research, Dr Jha enjoys teaching interdisciplinary students and sharing her enthusiasm for science education and research.
