CURRENT TASK
I joined the Vascular Biology Center at the Medical College of Georgia as a postdoctoral fellow in January 2023. I worked as an AHA‑funded postdoctoral fellow from January to August 2026 and then received the NIH K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award (NHLBI). Currently, I am investigating advanced topics in pulmonary circulation, lung injury, and endothelial repair. My research focuses on defining the molecular mechanisms that regulate endothelial barrier integrity using both in vitro and in vivo models of acute lung injury. I am deeply interested in uncovering the signaling pathways and cellular interactions that drive the pathophysiology of vascular and pulmonary disorders, with the long‑term goal of developing targeted strategies to preserve endothelial function and mitigate lung injury.
RESEARCH INTRODUCTION
I am contributing extensively to peer-reviewed literature, highlighting research areas like Vascular Biology, Diabetes mellitus, Medical Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Limnology, and Medicinal Chemistry.
I have received 486 citations with h-index 12 and i10 index 19 on Google Scholar and 407 citations on ResearchGate.
DOCTORAL DETAILS
My PhD dissertation topic was “Role of protein glycation in establishment and progression of diabetes mellitus: a correlation with gut microbiota”.
I worked on Epithelial barrier dysfunction. I invested my time in understanding the role of glycation, gut microbes, oxidative stress and inflammation at a cellular/molecular level in prediabetes/diabetes/diabetic complications during this time. I found that gut microbiota-intestinal interactions are vital for proper metabolism and health. Changes in the microbial flora can be affected by high-glycemic foods, which can lead to protein glycation of gut proteins and microbial dysbiosis (Patil and Arvindekar, 2021). Microbes that can grow on glycated proteins and also those that can promote further glycation are hazardous, especially to kidney health. It is also important to avoid foods that can introduce microbes that lead to the production of dicarbonyls such as glyoxal and methylglyoxal that can promote protein glycation and further help the establishment of diabetes (Patil et al., 2021). Thus, early intervention with glycation inhibitors and proper probiotics can prevent the establishment of prediabetes and further diabetes.
