About

Dr. Inbakandan Dhinakarasamy is a Professor (Research) and Head of the Centre for Ocean Research at Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, India, where he also leads the MoES–Earth Science & Technology Cell (Marine Biotechnological Studies) and the National Facility for Coastal & Marine Research. He has over 28 years of experience in marine biology, ocean biosciences, fisheries and aquaculture, with research interests spanning marine biofilms and biofouling, marine nanobiotechnology, genomics, coastal conservation, and climate change impacts on marine ecosystems.

His research integrates fundamental and applied approaches to develop sustainable, non-toxic solutions for marine biofouling control, aquaculture health management, and ocean-based biotechnologies. Dr. Inbakandan has authored more than 60+ peer-reviewed research articles, 15+ book chapters, one book, and holds multiple patents related to marine antifouling and nanocomposite technologies. He has led and coordinated several nationally and internationally funded research projects supported by agencies including MoES, DBT, DST-SERB, BRNS, and ICAR.

He serves as Co-Chair of the Ecosystem-based Aquaculture & Fisheries Group (E-bAG) of the IUCN Commission on Ecosystem Management and contributes to scientific publishing as an editorial board member and reviewer for leading international journals. His work aligns strongly with Sustainable Development Goal 14 (Life Below Water) and emphasizes science–policy–industry linkages and capacity building in ocean sciences.
