About
Dr. Chandra Sekhar Praharaj was born in January 1967 in Indian State of Odisha. He obtained his graduation (1988) and Master (1991) from OUAT, Bhubaneswar and Doctorate in Agronomy (1994) from PAU, Ludhiana. After successful completion of ARS (1992) and NET (1993), he served as a Scientist (1995-99) and Scientist Sr Sc. (1999-2001) at CPRI RS, Patna; Sr. Sci. at IISWC RC, Koraput (2001-02) and CICR RS, Coimbatore (2002-08), Pr. Sci. (2009-17) & Head, Crop Production Division (2017-2021) at ICAR-IIPR, Kanpur, Director (Acting) of ICAR-Indian Institute of Groundnut Research, Junagadh (Gujarat) from 14.02.2022 to 08.11.2022. He is currently working as Principal Scientist (Agronomy) & Head, Crop Production Unit, ICAR-IIGR, Junagadh 362 015 (Gujarat).
Besides handling several R & D projects under DAC, DST, NASF, NSP, BSP and TAR/IVLP, he has handled the assignment involving Principal Investigator of Network Project on Chickpea Agronomy (now AICRP on Rabi Pulses), Nodal officer for promotion of pulses in NEH region, IIPR RS, Bhubaneswar and PME Cell, ICAR-IIPR, Kanpur, and Mentor Scientist for Module II & III for MANAGE Programmes, Hyderabad.
Dr. Praharaj has made significant research contribution in the field of precision water management, long-term experimentation, and conservation agriculture enhancing water productivity and nutrient use efficiency in multiple cropping systems involving cereals, potato, cotton and pulses in diverse agro-ecosystems.
He has published around 600 research publications including 130 NAAS rated research articles, 10 books, 50 book chapters, 100 popular articles, 20 bulletins/manuals; presented 100 lead/oral papers and 100 poster papers in National and International Conferences; and delivered 25 talks in TV and Radio Programmes.
He has also visited/presented papers in foreign counties including Egypt, Morocco, Canada, Bangladesh and Nepal. He was Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Food Legumes (ISPRD,2017-20), Associate Editor-in-Chief of Current Advances in Agricultural Sciences (SAP, 2015-18) and Editor of several NAAS journals including currently “Journal of Agronomy” (2020-22). He was Course Director of a Summer School on Precision water management ensuring more crop per drop and Course Coordinator of seven winter school/short courses. Besides recipient of SIX BEST PAPER and POSTER AWARDS by NAAS recognized professional Societies, he was conferred with FELLOW of ISA (2014) and ISPRD (2016), SRI RAM PURASKAR (FAI, 2014, 2020), NCSG Award (2014); Reviewer Excellence Award (ARCC, 2016); Foundation Day Outstanding Scientist Award (ICAR-IIPR, 2017), Foundation Day Best Team Award (ICAR-IIPR, 2019) and ISPRD Recognition Award (2020), First Best Oral & Poster Presentation Award (2020/2021 in National Webinars), and ISA GOLD MEDAL 2018 (conferred at Intern Agronomy Congress, HYD, India 2021). And He has also received Awards of Appreciation by DOCD, Mumbai, DSASRD, Kanpur, and Govt. of Odisha (for watershed management).
His dedicated efforts, as Member Secretary in both SFC/EFC & Project Monitoring and Evaluation (PME) Cell of ICAR-IIPR, Kanpur (2017 onwards), and Chickpea Network Programme (2014 onwards), has currently brought recognition to Indian Institute of Pulses Research through Choudhary Devi Lal Outstanding AICRP Award (2016) and Sardar Patel Outstanding ICAR Institution Award (2017). He is also an honoured Institute Management Committee Member of ICAR-IIPR (Pulses), Kanpur (2018-21 and 2021-24), ICAR-IISS (Seed Science), Mau (2018-21), ATARI (Extension), Jodhpur (2020-23) and DGR (Groundnut), Junagarh (2020-23), India.
