About
Dr. Anup Tiwari is a geotechnical engineer with a Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, specializing in experimental and numerical geomechanics. His doctoral research focused on the mobility and depositional behavior of debris flows. By integrating large-scale flume experiments with Discrete Element Method (DEM) simulations, he advanced the understanding of post-failure behavior in granular flows and contributed to safer buffer zone and slope design.
He has developed innovative experimental infrastructure, including a patent-pending, sensor-integrated laboratory flume for real-time monitoring of flow processes. His research highlights the influence of particle shape, gradation, and saturation on flow dynamics, with practical applications in slope stability analysis, hazard mitigation, and mining safety. Beyond academia, Dr. Tiwari has contributed his expertise to industry-focused projects on slope stability, subsidence assessment, and controlled blasting, working as part of scientific study teams to enhance geotechnical risk management.
His current research interests encompass landslides, natural hazards, extreme climatic events, sustainable infrastructure development for hazard resilience, and geotechnical aspects of the energy transition.
Dr. Tiwari has authored peer-reviewed journal papers, delivered presentations at international conferences, and is proficient in DEM and FEM tools (EDEM, ANSYS, ABAQUS, Rocscience, GeoStudio) as well as Python and data-driven geotechnical analysis.
