About

Dr.Balaji Narasimhan has 12 years of experience in the use of GIS and remote sensing tools for hydrologic model development. As a hydrologic modeler, Dr.Balaji Narasimhan developed the SWAT model for two large water supply lakes in North-Central Texas, USA to assess the effect of upstream watershed management on lake water quality. He also developed a state of the art GIS based real-time integrated drought/wildland fire assessment tool currently used by Texas Forest Service for assessing forest fire risks across the state. Dr.Balaji Narasimhan served as an advisor to CLIMARICE project, Sponsored by Norwegian Government at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. ClimaRice is an integrated project that aims to assess the climate variability and its impacts on the water availability and rice production systems in the Cauvery river basin of Tamil Nadu, India. He was also a member of National Water Resources Assessment Committee formulated by the National Remote Sensing Centre, Hyderabad for bringing out a state of the art report on hydrologic models and issues related to national level assessment. Currently Dr. Balaji Narasimhan is a member of "Think Tank" in the development of India Water Resources Information System (India-WRIS).
