About
I am an early career researcher in Materials Science who was born and brought up in India and completed all school-level, degrees, and higher studies from Indian Universities. I graduated in STEM subjects holding a Bachelor's degree (B.Sc.) and Master's degree (M.Sc.) in Chemistry from the University of Calicut, India, and Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), India respectively. Additionally, I am a holder of a Master of Philosophy certificate in Chemistry from the University of Calicut, India. My research interest is highly interdisciplinary utilizing the aspects of both Chemistry and Materials Science. I defended my Ph.D. thesis titled “In vitro evaluation on biocompatibility and therapeutic efficiency of modified polyurethane fibrous membranes” in February 2021 under the supervision of Dr. A. Sujith, Professor, Materials Research Laboratory, Department of Chemistry, NIT Calicut, India. The work was focused on the fabrication of polymer-based electrospun fibrous membranes for wound dressing, tissue engineering, and controlled drug delivery applications. Later from December 2021 to November 2022, I worked as a Principal Research Scientist (Postdoctoral Research) under the guidance of Dr. Prakriti Tayalia, Cell and Tissue Engineering Laboratory, Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, IIT Bombay. There I worked on developing biocompatible systems for DNA binding, stability, and drug solubilization studies. Later I worked as an R and D Scientist in a start-up company (Hexlattice Materials Pvt. Ltd., Karnataka, India) where my role was to produce graphene on an industrial scale. This was a great industrial experience for me which helped me to gain hands-on experience in various graphene synthesis techniques such as CVD, flash synthesis, electrochemical exfoliation, and microwave exfoliation.
My research is mainly focused on the fabrication, functionalization, and characterization of polymer composites for various biomedical and environmental applications. More specifically, I am focusing on developing polymer membranes, films, hydrogels, cryogels, and surface coatings using different fabrication techniques. I was constantly working on developing biodegradable polymer composites with good mechanical properties, elasticity, and surface characteristics by tailoring their property through functionalization. During my research journey, I have gained experience in electrospinning, phase inversion membrane fabrication, spin coating, composite preparation, blend preparation, various materials characterization techniques, in vitro biocompatibility studies, tuning degradability of functional materials, fabricating superhydrophobic, super hydrophilic surfaces, etc.
I have enjoyed my time as a Ph.D. research scholar and Postdoctoral fellow and learned many aspects of polymer-based research. I have authored 13 publications (First author publications-6) in international peer-reviewed journals. I could attend and participate in many national and international conferences conducted by different universities in India. In the future, I would like to see myself as a successful independent researcher in materials science.
