About
Co-evolution of plants and plant-associated microbes is the area of my interest since I was an undergraduate. To pursue it, I joined Dr. Ramesh Sonti’s lab which is a leading lab in India in plant-pathogen interaction. My Ph. D. research was on Rice-Xanthomonas interaction. The major focus of my research was the perception of cell wall damage by rice following treatment with pathogen secreted cell wall degrading enzymes. The major finding was a novel rice receptor kinase that is required for the perception of enzymatic cell wall degradation. It was also observed that this protein could activate similar immune responses in two different plant species but via two different signalling mechanisms.
Currently, I'm working as a Research Associate (Postdoc) in the same lab and exploring rice functions that are involved in tolerance against sheath blight pathogen Rhizoctonia solani. I am also involved in the large-scale transcriptomic analysis of rice after Xanthomobas treatment, the role of vitamins in rice-Xanthomonas pathosystem, and the role of various plant signaling systems in cell wall damage-induced immunity.
