Plant Biologist, specilized in Plant Biotechnology and working for crop improvement. Former Vice-Chancellor Visva-Bharati University, Rashbehari Ghosh Chair Professor at University of Calcutta and the Deputy Direcctor General in Crop Sciences of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Ministry of Agriculture, New Delhi, India. Associated with Prof. Gerard Wenzel during DAAD fellowship in Germany, Prof. Ingo Potrykus at ETH-Zurich. Served as Faculty/Scientist at RKMVC College, Visva-Bharati University, UC-Davis, USA, IRRI-Philippines etc. Graduated from Presidency College, PhD from University of Calcutta, India. Supervised 33+ PhD scholars and published 150+ research papers appeared in Nature, Science, Nature Biotechnology etc. including the pioneerig publication on Genetic engineering of indica rice, fusion Bt genes engineered hybrid rice, Golden indica rice and microspore embryogenesis in cereals.
