About
Dr. Amarjit Prakashrao Kene, Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur, is a distinguished academician and researcher with extensive expertise spanning both theoretical and practical domains of engineering. He has recently joined Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Technology, Pimpri, Pune as a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (January 2026). Prior to this, he served as the Dean of Research & Development and Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at SVERI's College of Engineering, Pandharpur, where he played a pivotal role in strengthening research culture and innovation ecosystems within the institution.
Throughout his academic career, Dr. Kene has worked on diverse projects that effectively blend cutting-edge technology with real-world industrial applications. During his master’s research, he focused on optimizing the build orientation of 3D-printed components and developed 21 unique computational codes to simplify slicing strategies and tool-path generation, significantly enhancing efficiency and precision in additive manufacturing.
In his doctoral research, Dr. Kene made notable contributions in the domain of sensor fusion applied to conventional machining processes. He developed an advanced analytical model integrating multi-sensor data inputs to accurately predict tool wear and machining parameters. His approach demonstrated superior predictive capability compared to conventional regression and neural network-based methods, thereby contributing toward improved reliability and precision in machining systems.
Dr. Kene has also secured a prestigious research grant from the Rajiv Gandhi Science and Technology Commission (RGSTC) for the development of an “Electrical Crawler Vehicle for Agricultural Applications.” This project focuses on designing a sustainable, terrain-adaptive electric vehicle aimed at supporting mechanization in agriculture, particularly in challenging farm environments, thereby promoting energy-efficient and farmer-friendly technological solutions.
Under his earlier leadership at SVERI’s College of Engineering, Pandharpur, the institute was awarded a ₹1 crore AICTE IDEA Lab grant, aimed at fostering innovation, interdisciplinary research, and product development. The IDEA Lab initiative strengthened hands-on learning, encouraged a maker culture, and enhanced collaboration between academia and industry.
Dr. Kene actively collaborates with industry partners, contributes to international and national conferences, and has published extensively in reputed journals. His continued commitment to bridging academia and industry, promoting research excellence, and mentoring young engineers reflects his vision of developing technologically competent and innovation-driven professionals.
