About
Dr. Kuppan Gokulakrishnan currently Associate Professor & a DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance - Intermediate Fellow, Department of Neurochemistry, National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) - possesses domain expertise in biomarker research and disease biology, cellular & molecular alterations in metabolic diseases/ neuro-psychiatric disorders. He has over 16 years of research experience with multidisciplinary clinical/ basic research skills and has published over 50 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and also coauthored three chapters in textbooks. He is currently focusing on certain unique programs such as understanding ‘metabolic obesity’ in Indians, Insulin signaling, gut microbiome and epigenetics aspects of metabolic diseases/ neuro-psychiatric disorders, biomarker(s) identification for early disease prediction. The long-term goal of his lab is to expand the understanding of the molecular mechanisms of Metabolic Diseases/Neuro-Psychiatric disorders and to identify diagnostic/predictive biomarkers of disease, identify novel drug targets, develop precision intervention strategies & build a program to establish ‘Centre of Excellence’ in Clinical Epigenetics/Metagenomics for translational applications.
