About

Ashok Kumar is a professor of physical planning at the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, India. Trained as a human geographer and spatial planner, I believe in planning that aims at reducing spatial injustices, a task that is not well accomplished without comprehending and linking planning with broader political and economic processes. For me, collaborative planning remains at the core of planners' efforts, where plans are participatory and pragmatic. I live and work in Delhi. I have studied in India and the UK. My most recent edited books include (with D.S. Meshram and Krishne Gowda) Urban and Regional Planning Education – Learning for India (Springer, 2016); (with Poonam Prakash) Public Participation in Planning in India (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2016); (authored book with Sanjeev Vidyarthi and Poonam Prakash) City Planning in India (Routledge, 2020). I have also edited (with D.S. Meshram) two books titled (2021) Sustainable Development Goals and the Indian City: Inclusion, Diversity and Citizen Rights, Routledge, New York; and (2022) Future of Cities: Planning, Infrastructure, and Development, Routledge, New York.
