About

I am a Research Fellow in the School of Engineering at Trinity College Dublin, working at the interface of electroconductive biomaterials, bioelectronics and spinal cord repair. With interdisciplinary training in physics, nanotechnology, biological and materials sciences, I have over a decade of experience in biomaterials and tissue engineering, focusing on bioelectronic platforms for electrically stimulated neuroengineering. Across my career, my research has centred on five themes: :(i) silk-based minimally-invasive electroactive biomaterials for non-invasive neuro-immunomodulation; (ii) charge transport and electrochemistry of electroconductive biomaterials for neural stimulation; (iii) surface functionalisation of conducting polymer-based biomaterials for enhanced cellular interactions and electrical stimulation of nerve cells; (iv) nanoscale design of organic-inorganic hybrids for flexible energy devices; (v) layered double hydroxide NanoBioClays for topical RNAi delivery to protect important crops.
I held several competitive research fellowships including prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship at TCD (European Commission, 2022), INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship (Department of Science & Technology, India, 2018), Newton-Bhabha PhD placement award (Department of Biotechnology, India & British Council, UK, 2016) and INSPIRE PhD Fellowship (Department of Science & Technology, India, 2016). I received PhD in Physics (Biomaterials & Tissue Engineering) from Tezpur University following an MSc in Nanoscience & Technology (Gold Medal) and a BSc in Physics.
Mentoring and leadership are consistent threads in my career, from my PhD-postdoctoral-period in India through to TCD, where I supervise four UG/PG students and a visiting PhD. As INSPIRE Faculty Fellow, I was PI on two grants; established a cell-culture and imaging facility at Institute of Advanced Studies in Science & Technology, Guwahati, supervised three project researchers and co-supervised a PhD, and delivered PhD coursework teaching.
I remain strongly committed to disseminating research through publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals, presentations at prestigious international conferences, open-access platforms, and active engagement within collaborative research networks.
I also have a strong interest in teaching and am completing the Special Purpose Certificate in Teaching, Learning & Assessment at Trinity.
Beyond teaching and research, I also contribute to different academic and administrative services across my various roles at TCD and India including project management, lead in Dublin Biomedical Engineering Research Initiatives (DBERI) Seminar Series, member of TBSI Post-doc Committee, and organising conferences and scientific events.
