Brij Kishor Gupta

About

Dr. Brij Kishor Gupta, Director of the Greens Zoological, Rescue & Rehabilitation Centre in Jamnagar, India, brings over thirty four years of dedicated experience in wildlife conservation. His career includes pivotal roles with the Central Zoo Authority (Government of India), BNHS, WWF-India, and Wildlife SOS.
Dr. Gupta holds a Ph.D. in Zoology with research focused on the Behaviour and Enrichment among Sloth Bears (Melursus ursinus). Under his leadership, the Greens Zoological Centre now houses over 900 species of rescued wildlife, making it one of the most diverse rescue and rehabilitation centers in Asia.
A member of several prominent international bodies—including the Zoological Association of America (ZAA), SEAZA, IUCN/SSC Bear Specialist Group, and the Captive Care and Breeding Committee of the International Primatological Society—Dr. Gupta is deeply committed to advancing best practices in ex situ conservation. He also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of the Department of National Zoological Gardens, Sri Lanka, and has authored five books and over 100 peer-reviewed papers on wildlife science.
In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Gupta has received the International Animal Rights Leadership Award from PETA (2009) and the International Conservation Award from AZA (2010), Animal Protection Heros (2016) from Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organizations , AJ Higginbottom Scholarship Recipient from ZAA, US (2025) from among several others.
