About

Shyam Phartyal is a Humboldtian and JSPS alumnus, currently a Professor in the Department of Forestry at Mizoram University, Aizawl, India. He is one of the few leading Indian plant ecologists with a core research focus on wild plants' regenerative (seed) traits. His secondary research interests include plant-herbivore interactions, phenology, and citizen science.

He has authored over 90 research publications in reputed peer-reviewed journals. Currently, he serves as an Associate Editor for Functional Ecology (BES) and Seed Science & Technology (ISTA). Additionally, he is a reviewer for leading plant science journals and a member of the International Society for Seed Science (ISSS) and the IUCN-SSC Seed Conservation Specialist Group.
