Over 14 years of post-PhD teaching and research experience in genetics and genomics. Successfully guided 3 PhD and more than 40 MSc students. At present, supervising 2 PhD scholars and 6 Masters students.
The key to understanding any component of the living world is in the genome. The study of viral genomes has been a focus owing to their unique status bordering the non-living and small genome size. The analysis of viral genomics is being explored at three broad facets. First, the analysis of repeat sequences or microsatellites which are present as a unique signature in each genome. They are distributed ubiquitously across coding and non coding regions and exploring their impact on genome function, regulation and evolution has given interesting observations. The second aspect has been understanding the evolution of emerging viruses like SARS-CoV-2 and Monkeypox virus through phylo-geo-network analyses and deciphering clinical correlations with sequence alterations at the protein level. Thirdly, the intriguing scenario of satellite viruses and its interplay not only with the host but also the helper viruses, in pathogenicity and evolution. Further, we are looking into the impact of mutations in candidate genes in different clinical scenarios like diabetes, hemoglobinopathies, PCOS and arsenic genotoxicity.
