About
Translational science drives my work as a bioengineer, integrating materials science and biotechnology to develop biomaterials with clear clinical relevance. My expertise includes biomaterials synthesis, advanced physicochemical characterization, cell culture platforms, and immunological assays, complemented by strong project management, interdisciplinary collaboration, and scientific communication skills.
My research career has been shaped by interdisciplinary training and international collaborations across Canada, Japan, and the United States. I am currently a Research Fellow in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Maryland, where I focus on developing immunomodulating biomaterials for regenerative therapies. Previously, I was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of British Columbia, where I worked on immunosuppressive polymer systems designed to protect the endothelial glycocalyx and mitigate transplant rejection.
I received my PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Calgary, where I engineered smart hydrogels with tunable mechanical and biological properties for cartilage tissue repair. I subsequently served as a Research Fellow in Calgary, developing cellulose-based microcapsules encapsulating phase-change materials for thermotherapeutic treatment of rheumatic conditions. Earlier, during my master’s studies at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, my research focused on micromotor-based biosensing systems, disposable bioassay devices, and collaborative projects involving carbon nanotube-enabled microfluidic chips for cell sorting.
With a strong foundation in biomaterials, biotechnology, and immunoengineering, my goal is to translate innovative material-based strategies into next-generation therapies that address unmet clinical needs.
