About
I have completed my PhD in Engineering Sciences from Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) Mumbai. I have been allotted Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) Kalpakkam, a constituent institute of HBNI Mumbai.
The main focus area of my research is to carry out thermal-hydraulics studies for Fast Breeder Reactors (FBRs) for severe accidents. Here our goal is to enhance the heat transfer from destroyed core debris arising after Core Disruptive Accident (CDA) in FBRs. This has been done via passive means.
Turbulence modelling for conjugate heat transfer and fluid flow has been done for liquid metal coolant (liquid sodium). Based on the extensive and detailed numerical modelling, an innovative concept of molten core debris retention assembly [core catcher (CC)] is suggested. This new improved CC enhances the heat transfer from heat-generating molten core debris and maintained it under a safe thermal limit for a prolonged time.
