About

Arka Bandyopadhyay is a theoretical condensed-matter physicist at the University of Würzburg, where he works within the DFG Cluster of Excellence ct.qmat on quantum geometry, correlated and topological electronic structure, and unconventional transport.

His research develops materials-relevant theory at the meeting point of symmetry analysis and first-principles computation. Combining density functional theory and Wannier methods with tight-binding models, quantum transport and many-body techniques, he studies Berry curvature dipoles and nonlinear Hall responses, non-Hermitian topology, flat-band and kagome systems, altermagnetism, and complex-oxide interfaces — often in close collaboration with experimental groups.

Before Würzburg he held postdoctoral positions at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, including an Institute of Eminence Postdoctoral Fellowship, and completed his PhD at the University of Calcutta on the electronic and optical properties of graphene allotropes.

He is the author of more than forty peer-reviewed publications, including work recognised by IOP India Top Cited Paper Awards and a Physical Review B Editors' Suggestion, and serves as a referee for journals across condensed matter physics and materials science.
