About
Dr. J. R. Anoop Raj is an Adjunct Researcher (JD155575) at James Cook University, Australia, and an Associate Professor in the Department of Food Technology at Amal Jyothi College of Engineering (Autonomous), Kerala, India. He has over 15 years of teaching, research, and industry collaboration experience in Food Technology, Biotechnology, and Biochemical Engineering. He obtained his Ph.D. and M.Tech. in Biochemical Engineering from VIT University, Vellore, and his B.Tech. in Biotechnology from the University of Calicut.
Dr. Anoop Raj is a recognized Ph.D. Supervisor under APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU), Kerala, where he currently supervises doctoral researchers. He also serves as the Department Quality Assurance Coordinator (DQAC) and is a member of the KTU University Curriculum Committee. He is a Life Member of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) and the Association of Food Scientists & Technologists (India) [AFST(I)].
His research focuses on sustainable food systems, bioprocess engineering, and environmental biotechnology, with particular emphasis on biodegradable food packaging, biopolymer composites from agro-industrial wastes, biosensor development for edible oil quality assessment, valorization of agricultural by-products, functional food development, and circular bioeconomy approaches. His interests also include extraction of bioactive compounds, microbial degradation kinetics, wastewater and solid waste treatment, phytoremediation, bioreactor design, biochemical reaction engineering, and kinetic modelling.
Dr. Anoop Raj has published 14 peer-reviewed research articles in national and international journals, presented 22 conference papers, contributed nine nucleotide sequence submissions to GenBank, and participated in numerous workshops, faculty development programmes, conferences, and project exhibitions. During his doctoral research, he received a Research Award from the School of Mechanical and Building Sciences, VIT University, in recognition of his research publications. He has successfully transferred four technologies to industry, completed a Government of India-funded Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), IIT Delhi project, and is currently leading several consultancy projects in food product formulation and process development.
His doctoral research investigated the biodegradation of perchlorate-contaminated soil and water using Proteobacterium ARJR SMBS in a novel stirred-tank bioreactor system, contributing to sustainable environmental remediation technologies. His current and future research aims to integrate food technology, biotechnology, biochemical engineering, and artificial intelligence to develop innovative, sustainable, and economically viable solutions for food processing, environmental management, and circular bioeconomy applications through multidisciplinary academic and industrial collaborations.
