Tapan Dey, PhD, is an American Heart Association Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis. His research focuses on defining molecular and cellular mechanisms that drive pulmonary vascular remodeling in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), with particular emphasis on dysregulated cell-cycle, mitotic, cytoskeletal, and survival pathways in pulmonary vascular cells. His work integrates patient-derived pulmonary vascular cells, human lung tissues, transcriptomic and single-cell approaches, molecular and cellular biology, and experimental models of pulmonary hypertension to identify disease-driving mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets. His broader research background encompasses pulmonary fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, oxidative stress, inflammatory signaling, and environmental mechanisms of chronic lung disease. His long-term goal is to establish an independent research program focused on uncovering fundamental mechanisms of pulmonary vascular disease and translating mechanistic discoveries into new therapeutic strategies for PAH.
