About
I hold a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Forestry and an M.Sc. in Agroforestry (Forestry) from Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan. My M.Sc. research focused on scattered tree species within sub-temperate agroecosystems, with an emphasis on their critical role in enhancing the sustainability of farming communities.
This interdisciplinary study provided valuable insights into on-farm tree utilization patterns and their ecological and socioeconomic significance. It highlighted how scattered trees contributed to biomass production, fodder availability, improvement of soil nutrient status, and other essential ecosystem services. The research offered a detailed insight into farmer's perspective on species retention, fodder quality and sustainable development goals.
I am pursuing my Ph.D. under the proposed title:
“Assessment of agroforestry systems for sustainability, diversity, and ecosystem services in the wet temperate region of the North-Western Himalayas.”
This research aims to enhance our understanding of agroforestry, sustainability, and ecosystem functionality in the northwestern Himalayas. I have collected extensive field data across various land-use systems-classified into traditional and modern systems-across an altitudinal range of 1500 to 3000 meters above sea level in Himachal Pradesh.
For each system, I established a 400 m² circular plot to assess biomass, collect soil samples, and record biodiversity indices. Preliminary findings indicate that traditional agroforestry systems, although less intensive, offer greater biodiversity conservation and ecosystem stability than modern land-use practices. Furthermore, the study identifies key species that significantly contribute to maintaining ecological balance and ecosystem services. These findings have strong implications for policy formulation aimed at integrating biodiversity conservation with sustainable rural livelihoods.
In April 2025, I was in the fifth semester of my Ph.D. program (Batch 2022-2025) at Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan (HP), when I got selected as Assistant Professor, due to which my PhD is temporarily on hold. I intend to resume the program once formally permitted.
At present, I am serving as an Assistant Professor at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay College of Horticulture and Forestry, Piprakothi 845429; Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa, 848125; Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer's Welfare; Government of India.
My research interests include:
Agroforestry
Ecosystem services
Forest Ecology
Forest Stand Dynamics
Forest Management
Silviculture
Silvicultural Systems
I am open to collaborative research initiatives in these areas and related fields, with a focus on promoting sustainable forestry practices, enhancing ecosystem services, and advancing integrated land-use planning.
