About

Dr. A. K. Pandey is a distinguished scholar, educator, clinician and researcher in the field of Ayurveda, specializing in Kayachikitsa (Internal Medicine). He currently serves as Professor in the Department of Kayachikitsa, Faculty of Ayurveda, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, a position he has held since 2007. With over two decades of experience in Ayurvedic education, research, and clinical practice, Dr. Pandey has made significant contributions to the advancement of traditional Indian medicine in both national and international arenas. Dr. Pandey's academic journey began with a B.Sc. degree from Avadh University, Faizabad, in 1991. He went on to earn his BAMS degree in 2000 from Rishikul State Ayurvedic College, Haridwar. He further specialized in Kayachikitsa, completing his MD (Ayurveda) from Banaras Hindu University in 2003. He also acquired a Certificate in Clinical Yoga Practice (CCYP) and a Diploma in Yoga with a Gold Medal from BHU between 2002 and 2003. His academic pursuits culminated in a Ph.D. in Kayachikitsa from BHU in 2012.
A prolific researcher and writer, Dr. Pandey has published more than 173 research papers in reputed national and international journals. His scholarly output includes 21 authored books and 56 textbook chapters on Ayurveda, particularly focusing on Kayachikitsa, RogaVigyana, Diabetes and Cancer. He has also contributed significantly to government initiatives such as the Training Module for Geriatric Health Care (2008, Department of AYUSH) and the Open Vocational Education Programme under the MHRD, where he served as an editor for Ayurvedic Therapy modules published by NIOS. In the realm of research, Dr. Pandey has successfully completed six major projects funded by esteemed bodies such as CIMAP-CSIR, DST, CCRAS, and the Ayurvedic industry. He is currently leading another project supported by industry stakeholders. His core research interests lie in clinical studies pertaining to metabolic, endocrine, and autoimmune disorders, showcasing his commitment to integrating traditional wisdom with modern clinical applications.
Throughout his career, Dr. Pandey has received numerous awards and recognitions. Notable among them are the Late Professor U.A. Asarani Gold Medal (2003), Yoga Gaurav Award (2017), Vagbhata Award by AAPNA (2017), Kayachikitsa Visharad Award by Bharat Seva Sansthana (2017), Popular Teacher Award by National Medicos Organization (2019), Prof. R.H. Singh Memorial Award by Vishwa Ayurveda Mission (2023), and the prestigious Acharya Agnivesh Award (2024) by AIA(PG) Specialists Association. An inspiring mentor, Dr. Pandey has guided/Co-guide 40 MD (Ay) scholars and 11 Ph.D. researchers. He is also actively engaged in academic peer review and editorial responsibilities for several prestigious national and international journals, further extending his influence in shaping Ayurvedic scholarship and practice.
