Dr. Pawan Kumar Pathak is an Assistant Professor in the School of Automation at Banasthali Vidyapith, Rajasthan, India. He received his B.Tech. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Gautam Buddh Technical University (GBTU), Lucknow, India, in 2013. He completed his Master of Engineering (Honours) in Power Electronics from Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV), Bhopal, India, in 2015, securing the first rank in his class. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Banasthali Vidyapith in July 2021.
Dr. Pathak has over 11 years of teaching and research experience and has established himself as an active researcher in modern power systems and sustainable energy technologies. His research interests include renewable energy systems, hydrogen-based energy systems, cyber-secure smart grids, load frequency control, intelligent and optimal control, artificial intelligence applications in power systems, cyber-physical energy systems, and advanced metaheuristic optimization techniques.
He has qualified the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) three times (2013, 2014, and 2016). His scholarly contributions include more than 72 peer-reviewed publications, with over 50 papers published in SCI-indexed journals. His research has received significant international recognition, with more than 2,100 Google Scholar citations, an h-index of 28, and more than 1,780 Scopus citations. He has been recognized among the Stanford/Elsevier World's Top 2% Scientists (2025).
Dr. Pathak serves the international research community in several editorial capacities. He is a Section Editor for Discover Vehicles (Springer Nature), an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Energy Research, and serves on the editorial boards of several international journals. He is also an active reviewer for numerous high-impact journals, including IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, Energy Conversion and Management, ISA Transactions, International Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems, Journal of Energy Storage, Applied Energy, Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence, and several other leading journals published by IEEE, Elsevier, Springer Nature, Wiley, Taylor & Francis, and MDPI.
His current research focuses on developing AI-enabled, cyber-resilient, and hydrogen-integrated power systems for achieving net-zero energy transitions. His work spans resilient frequency regulation, renewable energy integration, virtual inertia control, cybersecurity of smart grids, intelligent optimization, and hydrogen energy storage technologies. He has actively collaborated with researchers from leading international universities and has contributed to several international research initiatives and high-impact publications.
Dr. Pathak has presented his research at several prestigious international conferences and has received the International Travel Support (ITS) Award from the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Government of India, under Young Scientist category, to present his research at the IEEE Energy Technologies for Future Grids (ETFG) conference hosted by the University of Wollongong, Australia. He has also served as a technical session chair at international conferences and continues to contribute to advancing research in sustainable, intelligent, and cyber-secure energy systems.
