Dr Sanjay Sarkar., Ph.D, an Assistant Professor of the Department of Zoology ( For UG & PG Studies), Serampore College( Affiliated to Calcutta University). Dr. Sarkar has significantly contributed in the field of Entomology and Acarology. Dr. Sarkar started his research career in Taxonomy and Bio-Ecology of Parasitoids of aphids infesting cereal plants at Josimath in Uttarakhand. Following research on this line Dr Sarkar became interested in the Biosystematics of phytophagous mite. Dr. Sarkar discovered two new Genera of plant mites. He has reported altogether 51 species under 28 genera of Eriophyoid mite among which 19 species appear new to Science. He has published his research paper in reputed National and Internal Journal. Dr. SARKAR received many prestigious awards. In 2012, Dr. Sarkar was awarded for his contribution on Eriophyod taxonomy in International Symposium on Acarlogy conducted by Acarology Development Foundation, USA. Environmental Biologist of the Year 2017 presented at India International Center, New Delhi on world environment Day. National Teaching Excellence Award. From IBRF, Kolkata in 2017.

Dr Sarkar participated many International, National and State level seminars / Symposia, science congress. He was invited to deliver a talk on mite taxonomy in XV International Acarological Congress, Antalya, Turkey in 2018. Dr.Sarkar offers researches to MSc students doing their research projects with him. Dr. Sarkar’s main areas of teaching are related to his research interests, He was invited several times as a Resource Person in the orientation programme in science teaching at secondary and higher secondary level in different school by Sarba Shiksha Avijan, Govt. Of W.B in 2010 & 2011. He is engaged in different academic work in Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute, Berhampore (w.b) Central silk Board, Ministry of Textile-Govt. of India.
