About

Dr Baskaran is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Zoology & Wildlife Biology, AVC College, TamilNadu, India. He obtained his PhD for his study on “Ranging and Resource Utilization by Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) in Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, Southern India using Radio Telemetry” on 7-January-2000. He has also studied the behavioural ecology of Asian elephants in the fragmented landscapes of northern West Bengal, surveyed and mapped elephant habitats and populations in the Eastern and Western Ghats, and compiled data for the Synchronized Elephant Census for the states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Since 2012, he has worked in Southern and Central India to understand the influence of land use, land cover and other ecological factors on the distribution and abundance of elephants and Human-Elephant Conflict. He has been a member of the IUCN/SSC Asian Elephant Specialist Group since 2001.
