About

Pascal Amedro, MD, PhD, HDR, is a Professor of Pediatrics and Pediatric & Congenital Cardiology at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences (GWU), Washington, DC, and serves as Dunn Endowed Professor of Cardiac Research and Senior Physician at the Heart & Lung Center, Children’s National Hospital (CNH), Washington, DC, USA.

He also holds an academic appointment as Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Bordeaux, France, and is a senior researcher at IHU Liryc (Electrophysiology and Heart Modeling Institute), Bordeaux University Foundation, within INSERM Unit 1045.

Dr. Amedro received his MD and degree in Pediatrics from the University of Montpellier (France), a degree in Pediatric and Congenital Cardiology from Paris–Necker University (France), a Master’s degree in Epidemiology from the University of Lyon (France), and a PhD in Public Health from Aix-Marseille University (France). He also holds the HDR (Habilitation to Supervise Research) from Aix-Marseille University. During his early education, he completed his junior year of high school in the United States (Middletown High School South, New Jersey).

Prior to his appointment in Bordeaux in 2021, he served as Head of the Department of Pediatrics at Montpellier University Hospital and as a researcher within INSERM Unit 1046 (PhyMedExp). He founded and directed the Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Montpellier University Hospital and remains an invited Professor at this institution.

His research focuses on health-related quality of life, physical activity, aerobic fitness, and cardiac rehabilitation in children, adolescents, and adults with pediatric-onset chronic diseases, particularly congenital and inherited heart disease. He has coordinated and led numerous national and European multicenter clinical trials, supported by competitive public research funding.

His main ongoing program is QUALI-REHAB, an innovative center-based and home-based hybrid cardiac rehabilitation program dedicated to children, adolescents, and young adults with chronic diseases (including congenital heart disease, inherited cardiac disorders, and childhood cancer survivorship). The program integrates exercise training, therapeutic education, and psychosocial support, and is currently being implemented and evaluated across Europe and the United States. He is also involved in international randomized trials evaluating pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions in pediatric populations.

Dr. Amedro is a board member of the French Society of Pediatric and Congenital Cardiology (FCPC) and the French Society of Pediatrics (SFP). He is also a member of the French Society of Cardiology (SFC), the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), and the European Association for Pediatric and Congenital Cardiology (AEPC). He coordinates the French national inter-university academic training program in pediatric and congenital cardiology and, in 2023, was elected to the board of the French College of Professors of Pediatrics.
