Dr. Sonal Sekhar M completed his B.Pharm (JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysore; 1999-2003 Batch) and M.Pharm (VIPS, Bangalore; 2004-2006 Batch) degree from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, India, and Ph.D. from Manipal Academy of Higher Education (Formerly known as Manipal University; 2016), Manipal, India. He has more than 17 years of experience in clinical pharmacy teaching and research.
His areas of interest are drug safety, public health pharmacy, and pharmacoepidemiological research. He has 76 publications in national and international journals to his credit (Including Journals like BMJ Global Health, Antibiotics, Medical Hypotheses, Journal of American College Nutrition, Expert Opinion on pharmacotherapy, Nutrition, etc.) with h-index (Scopus 15; Google Scholar:22). He has written 15 book chapters in Nutrition and Clinical Toxicology in Elsevier (Academic Press) and Taylor & Francis (CRC Press) published books. He had received a Pharmabridge fellowship from FIP, Netherlands, for clinical pharmacy training in Canada. Moreover, he has been selected for an ISID Pfizer grant to establish a public health pharmacy model to tackle AMR. He has received a DHR-GIA grant from the Department of Health Research, New Delhi. Besides, he has received a research grant from the Manipal-McGill Centre for Infectious Diseases (MAC ID) for Vitamin D research in diabetic foot infection and Intramural Funding (IMF) from MAHE. He has also received travel grants from various funding agencies like DST, DBT, ICMR, CICS, Tata Trust, and ISPE to present his research works at international conferences. He is a registered PhD guide under the Manipal Academy of Higher Education, guiding 6 PhD fellows. He has established a Centre for Public Health Pharmacy under Manipal Academy of Higher Education. He also serves as staff coordinator of the Pharmacy Literacy Club and Staff editor of “DigiDose,” a quarterly Newsletter. He has visited different countries like Malaysia, Thailand, UAE, Japan, Australia, Canada, Italy, Netherland, and the Czech Republic to present his research work. He is a recipient of Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute’s SCLSG Grant in 2022. He has received an appreciation award for conducting community outreach programs from MAC ID. He was awarded the best poster in Manipal Cardiology Update-2016 & 2018, TAHCON-2016 and Publon Reviewer award, etc.
