About
Dr Shakir Husain did his graduation and masters in medicine from the RNT Medical College, Udaipur in 1986 and 1991. He pursued post-doctoral studies in Neurology from G B Pant Hospital & Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi and obtained DM in 1995. He worked at GB Pant Hospital as senior research associate and as a consultant neurologist at St. Stephen's hospital, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital and VIMHANS in New Delhi. He decide to learn Neurointervention when, he attended the Zurich course in Neurointervention in 1996. He subsequently joined a Fellowship in Interventional Neuroradiology in 1997 at University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland and completed fellowship in1999.
Dr. Husain had visiting fellowships in Interventional Neuroradiology at Fondation Ophthalmique Adolphe de Rothschild, Paris and University Hospital Eppendorf, Hamburg, Germany before returning to Delhi. He joined as a Consultant Neurologist & Interventional Neuroradiologist at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, India from May 1999, where he developed one of the first departments of Neuroendovascular Therapy in the country. He developed the first structured one-year "Egas Moniz Fellowship in Interventional Neurology" not only in India.
In 2009 Dr. Husain joined Max Group of Hospitals as the Director of Interventional Neurology and Director of Max Stroke Program where he was actively involved in developing an independent Neurointerventional service with an integrated Day care, Interventional Stroke ICU and Neurovascular Suit.
He moved to Saket City Hospital in 2014 to join the Institute of Neurosciences as a director, Interventional Neurology & Stroke and Chairman, department of Neurology with a desire and commitment to create a comprehensive care system for the Stroke victims and create a state of art Neurointerventional program. He worked at the Department of Neurology, RKU, University of Ulm, Germany as a Director, Neurointervention training program and scientific advisor Interventional Neuroradiology from 2015 March till July 2016

Dr. Husain is the founder chairman of “Stroke & Neurointervention Foundation” (SNIF). He runs a fellowship program in Stroke & Interventional Neurology. Over last more than one decade he has developed one of the busiest fellowship program (one year duration) in neurointervention in South-East Asia. So far he has trained more than 60 fellows over last 12 years.
He founded “Delhi Course on Neurointervention” in the year 2005, which has been held annually ever since and is recognised as one of the dedicated educational activities in the field. The 12th Delhi course is scheduled for March 2017.
He is the author of several original publications in various journals. He is on editorial board of Frontiers in Endovascular and Interventional Neurology, Journal of Neurology and Stroke, Internet Journal of Neurology and Indian Journal of Neurotrauma.
He has been instrumental in developing comprehensive Stroke and Neurointervention centres in Asia Pacific region in collaboration with the universities and major hospitals of this region.
In addition to his prolific clinical research, he has lectured extensively all around the world as a guest faculty and on the editorial board of various journals on neuroradiology, and Interventional Neurology. He is now faculty to the most prestigious Zurich Course in Neurointervention held at university hospital Zurich one from where he started his journey of neurointervention and NEURO-IMC at Madrid for last two years.
He loves doing nature walk, playing tennis, and photo shooting in his leisure time if he has at all.
